Scope and Contents
Addressed to Mrs. John T. Johnson, Lura’s mother. Describes settling at St. Mary’s Seminary School. Invited to arrive early to adjust to the school. She was waiting on Miss France to go over her work at the school. Miss France announced that a girl was arriving on the governor’s yacht. Lura and Miss O’Hara, another teacher, decided to walk down to the wharf to see the yacht. The West family invited Miss France for a boat ride on the river. [Alice Fitzhugh West was the daughter of Harold E. West, reporter for The Baltimore Sun, close friend of U.S. President Woodrow Wilson, and chairman of the Public Service Commission of Maryland, appointed by Gov. Albert Ritchie (in office 1920-1935).] Lura was invited by Miss France. The new girls attending the school will arrive on 1928 September 11. The old girls will arrive on 1928 September 12. They will begin teaching on Thursday, 13 September 1928.
